The HP Photosmart 7850 color inkjet unit provides excellent print quality in a compact design, and its affordable price is well-suited to home users on a budget. The cost of printer ink is also budget-friendly, with inexpensive HP 7850 ink. Its black and color printing speeds are both fast.

While the 7850 can provide very sharp text for everyday office printing, it stands out for its excellent photo quality, and this is supported by features designed for just this purpose. The PictBridge-enabled USB port allows users to connect compatible cameras directly, and it can even print without a PC. The HP Real Life technologies have automatic red-eye removal and other easy editing built right in, allowing even beginners to produce great photos quickly and easily. The machine also supports borderless printing at sizes up to 8.5x24 inches.

Print speed is impressive at 22 pages per minute for black and up to 20 pages per minute for color. For an inkjet, the small difference between color and monochrome speed is surprisingly good. Photos are slower but can print in as fast as 27 seconds.

To achieve better photo quality, the 7850 uses 6 colors of printer ink. This makes the cost of HP 7850 ink cartridges somewhat higher, as they cost more to replace. The fairly large capacities of Photosmart 7850 ink cartridges give them a low cost per page, however. Third-party compatible Photosmart 7850 ink is the most economical choice for reducing costs.

With compact size, affordable price and convenient operation in mind, the HP Photosmart 7850 is an excellent choice for the home user with a focus on producing great photo projects. Its impressive editing software and helpful features, like a PictBridge port and memory card slots, make it very easy to use, and low-cost HP 7850 ink makes it very economical.
