Right in the middle ground between an expensive office machine and a light-duty inkjet is the HP OfficeJet 7115. It can handle the copy, fax, scan, and print functions an office needs, but with a much more affordable price and more compact design than a typical laser device. The use of HP 7115 printer ink and a high resolution also results in pretty good photo quality.

The basic configuration of the 7115 measures 13.3x21.9x16.3 inches, and its 30.8 pound weight includes the OfficeJet 7115 printer ink, so it is fairly easy to move when needed. Adding extras like two-sided printing or an extra paper tray will add a little to its size. The main tray holds up to 150 sheets, so the total upgradeable capacity is 400 sheets.

Draft mode speeds are fast, at up to 23 pages per minute for black and 18 ppm for color output, but higher quality settings will slow things down considerably. Still, the Draft setting may be adequate for many home users, and it reduces the amount of HP 7115 ink used for each page.

For scanning, copying, and faxing, users have a choice between a flatbed scanner and an automatic document feeder that can hold up to 50 sheets for fast scanning. OCR software is even included for turning paper documents into digital files with editable text.

One weakness of the model is that HP 7115 ink cartridges can be a little expensive and somewhat wasteful. Since the tricolor supply combines three colors, users can't replace just the one color they need. Seeking remanufactured OfficeJet 7115 ink cartridges is recommended to keep costs down, which also helps balance this disadvantage.

Home users looking for a simple all-in-one inkjet might find the 7115 more complicated and pricey than they need. For home office and small office users, however, it has a nice balance of features without the high cost of more advanced business machines.
