The HP Deskjet 694 is a very basic model of inkjet printer, intended for the needs of home offices with small workloads. Most offices or small businesses will not only prefer a multifunction unit but also better speeds and quality. Quite frankly, there is nothing special about the 694. It is affordable, outdated and average. However, for a person just needing to print standard documents occasionally, this machine is a viable option.

Using the drop-on-demand technology, small dots of HP 694 ink are ejected onto the page through nozzles. These dots form resolutions, so more nozzles equal better quality prints. Using the black Deskjet 694 ink, 5 pages per minute can be printed at a resolution of 300x300 dpi. If increased to "best mode", the resolution can grow to 600x600 dpi, but the unit is only able to print 1 page per minute. With color HP 694 ink it can bang out 2 pages per minute at 300x300 dpi.

This inkjet device comes with two Deskjet 694 ink cartridges, one black and the other tricolor, which contains magenta, yellow and cyan printer ink. There is also an optional photo HP 694 ink cartridge that is designed to provide the best quality prints this machine is capable of. The HP ColorSmart technology automatically enhances images and ensures the final result will be true to the original.

The 694 has a built in memory of 512 KB, and it holds a 100-sheet input tray and a 50-sheet output tray. It weighs less than 12 pounds and measures 17.2x16x7.9 inches. Compatible with both Windows and Mac, it features new banner-printing capabilities and has a monthly duty cycle of 1,000 pages, which should work just fine for home users. The quick-dry printer ink will prevent smudges, and the 1 year warranty on the HP Deskjet 694 should ensure reliability.
