It can print on multiple types of paper, such as envelopes, labels and transparencies. There is a 512 KB RAM built-in to the 692, as well as a solid processor and 50-sheet output tray.

Using the tricolor HP 692 ink cartridge, this unit can print about 2 pages per minute with a resolution of 300 dpi. With the black printer ink, it can yield about 5 pages at 600 dpi. These days, these speeds and resolutions are way below average. However, the color photos produced using HP 692 ink are realistic and vivid. This is because there is an optional Deskjet 692 ink cartridge that specializes in photo printing. However, it can only print 1 picture every 4-5 minutes.

The tanks of HP 692 ink have low page yields of less than 200. The inkjet unit itself can only yield 1,000 pages per month. So, the replacement Deskjet 692 ink can get expensive if the printer is used to its maximum volume. The drop-on-demand technology uses nozzles to apply the printer ink to the page.

This unit does not have a lot of features small offices require, such as copying or faxing. It also does not have networking capabilities. What it does have is reliability and accuracy.
