HP 6623 Printer Review

Despite its basic and simple design, the HP Deskjet 6623 inkjet printer produces excellent photos and includes wireless support, all for an affordable price. Print speeds can reach up to 30 pages per minute in black and 20 pages per minute in color, and even the OEM Deskjet 6623 printer ink is affordable.

The design of the 6623 is straightforward, with no LCD and only a few controls, though the machine is fairly compact. It measures 5.67x14.45x17.72 inches, and weighs 13.2 pounds with the HP 6623 printer ink installed. It does include a PictBridge port on the front of the device, allowing for connecting a digital camera for direct printing, though they will need to use the camera's screen for previewing.

Networking is built right in, whether users utilize the ethernet network port for a wired connection, or the 802.11g wireless support for sharing without messy cables. The main paper tray can hold only 150 sheets, which is adequate for the average home user. Small offices might want to consider adding the optional 250-sheet tray as an upgrade, for more capacity. A duplexing unit can also be added for automatic two-sided printing.

In addition to the black and tricolor HP 6623 ink cartridges used for standard operation, there are optional photo color and photo gray supplies. The former Deskjet 6623 ink cartridge enhances photos, while the latter helps create black-and-white photos with more contrast. To defray some of the extra expense of these optional supplies, users may want to consider remanufactured HP 6623 ink instead of OEM versions.

The Deskjet 6623 inkjet printer isn't the most exciting in its class. It doesn't have the advanced features of some of its competition, but it offers good output quality, solid speeds, and cost-effective operation that make it a good value.
