The HP Deskjet 656 printer will offer crisp, clean printing for a very low price. Weighing only 10.1 pounds, this unit is fairly portable, and its slender design also makes it a comfortable fit for any home office with little room to spare. Only compatible with Windows operating systems, Mac users will have to look somewhere else for standard printing.

Print speeds are decent at 6 pages per minute using black HP 656 ink and 3 pages per minute using color printer ink. Though these speeds will leave many on the edge of their seats waiting for documents to process, for those only needing a device for casual or once-in-awhile printing, with a monthly duty cycle of 1000 pages, this could be the perfect machine. The 656 has the ability to produce quality images using different media types—including premium paper, glossy paper, labels, envelopes and transparency film. This inkjet unit can be connected via USB, and it does not support wireless printing.

A tricolor and a black Deskjet 656 ink cartridge are both included in the purchasing box and will need to be replaced fairly often after that. The tricolor printer ink has a page yield of only 350, while the Deskjet 656 ink has a yield of 500 pages. The only downside to these tanks are the somewhat low resolutions of 600X600 dpi for black and 600x300 dpi for color. For those printing every day, HP 656 ink will probably become an expense early on, however, the tanks are affordably priced, especially when purchased remanufactured from a third party vendor.

Consumer reviews are pretty positive for this sleek inkjet printer. Most find the speed to be a little slow but acceptable. Set up and use both are pretty easy, and the documents produced tend to make consumers happy all around. This isn't the fanciest printer out there these days and it's becoming harder and harder to find the HP 656 ink cartridges, but the unit still has a lot to offer users who wants simple, yet high quality prints.
