With a slim, compact design, the HP Deskjet 6548 is a color inkjet that can conserve space while still providing excellent performance. Print speeds are very impressive, at up to 30 pages per minute for black and 20 pages per minute in color, and photo quality is excellent. Swapping HP 6548 printer ink for different types of printing might be inconvenient for some buyers, however.

Users with limited space will be glad to know that the 6548 has a small footprint and a low profile. It measures 5.7x17.7x14.5 inches, and weighs 13.2 pounds without the Deskjet 6548 printer ink installed. It includes two USB ports for a connection to either a PC or Mac computer, and the front port makes it easier to connect a laptop or other device quickly without having to dig around the back of the machine. Users also have the option of adding wired or wireless network support with an optional print server attachment.

The input paper capacity of 150 sheets should be a good fit for low-volume use, and it can hold media in sizes up to 8.5x14 inches for very flexible paper handling. Print quality is quite good, with fairly sharp text down to 4 pt fonts, and graphics are also very solid. Photo quality is reviewed by experts to be very good as well, with well-balanced colors.

The inkjet system uses two HP 6548 ink cartridges at a time, normally black and tricolor. For photos, users might choose to replace the black supply with a special "photo" Deskjet 6548 ink cartridge for better colors, or a "photo gray" supply for better black-and-white photos. While the added flexibility is nice, some users may tire of having to shuffle different types of HP 6548 ink frequently.

The main benefits of the HP 6548 are its fast speeds and slim design, but buyers will also love its versatile paper handling and sharp print quality. Those who won't mind its lack of networking capabilities should find it to be a very good choice.
