As home users require more from their multifunction inkjet printers, the HP Photosmart 6512 e-All-in-One aims to answer with printing, scanning, and copying functions, as well as eFaxing for sending faxes over the internet instead of a phone line. It also offers impressive wireless integration and mobile device support, and inexpensive HP 6512 printer ink to keep printing affordable.
With its compact design measuring 6.3x17.2x15 inches, and a weight of 12.35 pounds, the 6512 is an ideal choice for college dorm rooms or home offices where space is at a premium. It can be connected directly to a computer via USB, but the included wireless support will likely be the connection option of choice.
The large full-color touchscreen interface is one of the highlights of the 6512's sleek design. It resembles a smartphone, with finger-sized icons for navigation and sliding gestures that will be familiar to many users. Scanning and copying require no computer connection at all, and the status of the device or the level of Photosmart 6512 ink remaining is easy to access.
In a review of the device by PC Magazine, the editors rated the inkjet 3 out of 5 stars. They gave it high marks for its wireless integration and touchscreen, but thought its paper capacity of 80 sheets was too small, and that HP 6512 ink was too expensive.
High-capacity HP 6512 ink cartridges are available as alternatives to the smaller standard versions. For even more savings, however, users can opt for compatible Photosmart 6512 ink cartridges. These have been remanufactured to high standards, and offer a significant cost savings.
With a very low upfront price and the most essential features a home user or student would need, the HP 6512 is a solid choice for buyers who want a multifunction device. Its compact size will save space, as long as buyers don't mind its limited paper capacity.

The Photosmart 6512 is designed for high-quality photo printing, but can also handle copy and scanning, making it a solid solution for busy home users. Wireless support makes it easy to connect and set up, and support for HP’s ePrint and Apple AirPrint technologies allows for simple printing from mobile devices.
Make sure the unit is turned on, and start by opening the access panel at the top of the machine. The carriage holding the cartridges moves to the center automatically.
Locate the small lever at the front of the HP 6512 ink cartridge and press it toward the back of the printer until the cartridge unlocks. You can then grab it and lift it out of the opening.
The new Photosmart 6512 cartridge must first be removed from the box, then carefully tear or cut the plastic bag and remove it as well. Pull firmly on the yellow tape at the top, then press the cartridge’s small lever away from the orange plastic protector to remove it carefully.
Slide the cartridge into place, then press down on the top to lock it down firmly, making sure you feel it click. Lower the access panel to complete the installation.
You are now ready to resume printing with your HP Photosmart 6512 printer.
