HP 6301 Printer Review

The HP OfficeJet 6301 all-in-one inkjet printer brings serious office features to the home or small office, with speeds of up to 30 pages per minute in black and 24 pages per minute in color. OfficeJet 6301 printer ink is much more affordable for small-scale printing than laser models, and it can scan, copy, and fax.

The control panel of the 6301 is fairly robust, with a full keypad and dedicated buttons for many functions. The unit might be a bit larger than expected, at 9.3x18x12.8 inches, but it keeps things light, at less than 17 pounds, even with the HP 6301 ink supplies in place.

With fast speeds, it is easy to forgive a little extra bulk, but it may be more difficult to forgive its limited paper handling. The main tray holds only 100 sheets. A 35-sheet automatic document feeder is certainly helpful, however, in addition to the flatbed scanner.

Although it isn't the primary focus, the 6301 can also produce sharp photos. With an optimized output of 4800 dpi when using color HP 6301 printer ink, it provides impressive results. It is limited to 1200 dpi for black, but this should still be quite sharp for text and general office documents.

The unit can utilize 6-color printing thanks to a versatile selection of OfficeJet 6301 ink cartridges. Users can swap the black HP 6301 ink cartridge for either a photo gray or photo color supply, which enhance black-and-white or color photos. Prices for supplies are reasonable, and remanufactured versions are available for even more savings.

The 6301 is quite appealing for light work in a home or a very small office. Its limited paper capacity means it can't handle a heavy workload, however, and lack of more advanced features like wireless support could be a deal breaker for some buyers.
