The HP Deskjet 615c doesn't have the advanced features that some buyers might be looking for, but for a basic color inkjet printer, it is average. Print speeds are a bit disappointing, at a maximum of 5 pages per minute for black and 2.5 pages per minute for color. Buyers will want to seek out third-party alternatives to HP 615c printer ink because supply costs are high.

The 615c has a basic boxy design, with only two buttons on its front. It is compact enough to share a desk with, as its footprint is only 17.2x15.5 inches, and it weighs only 11.5 pounds, not including the weight of the Deskjet 615c ink supplies. The front paper tray holds 100 sheets, but is only partly covered, so pages may be prone to collecting dust if left for too long.

The unit supports only PCs, with no support for Macs. Even worse, it includes only a parallel port, which most modern computers can no longer handle without an adapter. Since print quality maxes out at 600 dpi, users shouldn't expect great photo quality, but for standard text documents and occasional graphics, it probably won't disappoint the average user.

Savvy buyers know that the cost of printer ink is often more important than the machine itself, and HP 615c ink cartridges prove it. Even with solid page yields of 500 for black and 350 for the tricolor Deskjet 615c ink cartridge, they are not as cost-effective as competing models. Seeking out remanufactured HP 615c ink is highly recommended for this model.

The Deskjet 615c certainly has a few positive points. Its compact frame is great for tight spaces, and it is easy to set up, but overall this inkjet disappoints in speed and quality. Limited connection options and pricey supplies make it a poor value.
