The Office Jet 600 is a multi-purpose inkjet printer intended to reside in an office environment. Most home users are not looking for the capability to scan, copy and fax as well as print photos. This unit is known more for its quality rather than speed. Printing less than 5 pages per minute using black HP 600 ink and less than 3 pages in color is not considered efficient these days. More current models can print up to 30 pages per minute.

Weighing 15 pounds and measuring 17x11.25x8.15 inches, this unit makes a decent sized footprint but can still fit on most desks or tables. Unfortunately, the 600 is only compatible with Windows operating systems and lacks connectivity options. Images are transferred by a parallel port only, which can take a while. Combined with the slow print speed, it may require some patience to wait for documents to print, especially in color.

There are 2 HP 600 ink cartridges, one containing black printer ink and the other with color. Using the black OfficeJet 600 ink cartridge, this unit can print at a resolution of up to 600x600 dpi. In color, it can reach 600x300 dpi. There are nozzles attached to the printheads that disperse the HP 600 ink in small dots over every inch of paper. This unit can print on multiple types of paper, such as index cards and envelopes.

The faxing feature has a transmission speed of 6 seconds per page. The copy machine can produce 3-5 pages per minute and has a resolution of 300 dpi. It also has a 24-bit color depth, which consists of color tones the naked eye has never seen. The OfficeJet 600 ink is strong and can adhere to various kinds of paper, and can last for years. With so many features and such high quality printer ink, the HP OfficeJet 600 inkjet unit is perfect for a small office.
