HP 5943 Printer Review

The HP Deskjet 5943 is a relatively simple photo inkjet printer, with solid speeds of up to 30 pages per minute for black and 24 pages per minute for color, though photos are a bit slower. Its output quality is quite good, and HP 5943 printer ink can be very affordable, if users take the time to seek third-party options.

Users who want a streamlined, uncomplicated design will appreciate the 5943. Its control panel features only a few buttons and indicator lights for when the Deskjet 5943 ink is running low. Most of the functionality is handled through the included Image Zone software, which can edit, enhance, and organize photos. A PictBridge port on the front does allow for simple printing directly from a compatible camera, however.

Both Windows and Mac are supported, which goes for the software as well. The unit connects only via USB, with not built-in networking support. The main tray can hold 100 sheets at a time, and although automatic duplexing is not included, manual duplexing can be achieved with the help of the print driver.

Output quality was rated fairly high by reviewers, with some mentioning sharp text, though graphics sometimes showed banding. Photo quality improved with the use of the optional photo Deskjet 5943 ink cartridge installed.

The unit comes with one tricolor and one black HP 5943 ink cartridge, and can handle any type of printing with this configuration. The aforementioned photo supply can provide better skin tones with the addition of two extra colors. High-capacity HP 5943 printer ink is available to reduce the cost per page, and remanufactured supplies are available from some third-party vendors at a fraction of the OEM prices.

The Deskjet 5943 inkjet printer should do a decent job of everything from simple, day-to-day documents to photo printing. Its speeds are adequate for home use, and it is fairly affordable to operate.
