The HP Deskjet 5850 ink printer is a thermal inkjet printer with dependable wireless and wired connectivity. It has an impressive monthly duty cycle of 5000 pages and scores with its crisp photo prints. It is a good buy for small offices and would have had more appeal if it lived up to its rated print speeds. There are other models out there priced in the same range but with higher speeds; but then you don't get networking with these models.

The HP 5850 ink cartridge printing machine measures 17.9 x 6.6 x 9.8 in and it weighs 12.7 lbs; it is a light weight device with a small footprint. The Deskjet 5850 promises 21 ppm for monochrome and 15 ppm for color prints. It is capable of a maximum resolution of 1200 x 1200 dpi for monochrome and 4800 x 1200 dpi for color printing. The HP 5850 inkjet cartridge printer ships with two HP inkjet cartridges: one HP 56 Black with a page yield of 520 pages and one HP 57 Tricolor which lasts for 500 pages. You can avail an optional HP 58 Photo ink cartridge for six-color photo printing and also get borderless photo prints on standard-sized papers.

The Deskjet 5850 can handle the following media types: labels, greeting cards, transparencies, iron-on transfers, plain paper, photo paper, banners, envelopes, and index cards. It can also handle a wide variety of media sizes, the largest being 8.5 in x 14.0 in. The device is capable of automatically detecting paper type and it adjusts print speeds accordingly. Apart from the 150-sheet paper tray that accompanies the machine, an additional 50-sheet tray boosts the input paper feed capacity to 400 sheets.

The HP Deskjet 5850 inkjet printer works nicely in a network and can manage print jobs for a small office of up to five people. The Photo and Imaging Director software enables easy editing, emailing, printing, and locating of photos. You can also burin images to CD-ROMs. The machine supports duplexing and functions quietly. Overall, this PC and Mac compatible machine has a lot of pluses to its credit.
