The HP OfficeJet 5608 will not only be a perfect inkjet printer for a small or home office, it will also serve as a reliable photocopier, fax machine and scanner. Having so many functions, the 5608 is surprisingly compact, with a weight of only 13 pounds and a frame that measures about 9x17x16 inches. Another versatile feature is the color capabilities made possible by the cyan, magenta, yellow and black printer ink that is used.

Though only two HP 5608 ink cartridges are used at a time, there are actually four options for replacements. The standard black OfficeJet 5608 ink cartridge can yield 220 pages, but the high-capacity version can produce up to 520 prints. The standard tricolor HP 5608 ink can yield only 165 pages and specialty photo printer ink is available. Users will need to remove the black-only OfficeJet 5608 ink to install the photo tank.

The maximum output rate for black-and-white documents is 20 pages per minute, but the speed slows to about 12 pages per minute in color. It can take nearly 5 minutes to print a full color 4x6" picture, but the overall quality of 1200x600 dpi that can be generated with the HP 5608 ink will ensure lab-quality results. The best quality will be created on specialty paper, such as glossy or photo.

The copying function provides resizing options and allows users to make up to 99 duplicates per scan. It is the internal resolution of the scanner, which enhanced is 19200x19200 dpi that keeps copies as true to the original as possible. The fax machine has 100 speed dials, a 100-page memory and a transmission speed of 33.6 Kbps, which will allow faxes to be sent and received in 3 seconds.
