HP 5607 Printer Review

The HP OfficeJet 5607 starts out strong, as an affordable and compact all-in-one inkjet printer with great features. It can print, copy, fax, and scan, with extras like an automatic document feeder to appeal to office users. It tends not to meet its rated speeds, however, and OfficeJet 5607 printer ink is very expensive to replace, negating some of the value in its low purchase price.

HP did well with the design of the 5607. Everything is straightforward and easy to use. It measures 9.3x17.1x16.5 inches, and even with the HP 5607 ink installed, it is just 13 pounds, for a good fit on a desktop surface. With the inclusion of both an automatic document feeder that holds 25 sheets and a flatbed scanner, users have a lot of options.

There are some limitations to the design, however. No networking support is included, with only a lone USB port for connecting to a PC or Mac. With no memory card slots or PictBridge port on the front, photo enthusiasts might be a bit disappointed as well. Although the unit is rated for up to 20 pages per minute in black and 13 pages per minute in color, it doesn't reach these speeds in its most common quality modes.

Users also may find themselves fighting a losing battle with printer ink costs, as HP 5607 ink cartridges are expensive. Remanufactured OfficeJet 5607 ink cartridges are available at lower prices than OEM equivalents, but the overall cost of HP 5607 ink is still high in comparison to other models in its class.

The OfficeJet 5607 may have some appeal for those who want a business-centric inkjet model, but there are better models on the market. The combination of slow performance and expensive supplies are too much for its good design to overcome.
