The HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One takes the features of previous models in its line, such as the 5510 series, and adds extras like duplex printing to make it even more versatile. As a multifunction color inkjet printer, it can also scanning and copying, with a focus on high-quality photo output as well. HP 5520 printer ink is affordably enough to keep running costs down, though its upfront price is a bit higher than previous models.
As wireless networking becomes increasingly common in the home and the workplace, having a printer that integrates into an existing setup is a must. The 5520 not online includes built-in support for 802.11n with backwards compatibility for older standards, but it includes HP's ePrint technology, which allows printing from practically any web-connected device. Apple's AirPrint standard is also included for easy printing from these devices.
The color touchscreen interface measures 2.65 inches diagonally, and acts somewhat like a tablet or smartphone. It is even possible to download free apps for tasks like printing coupons, puzzles, and more. The machine's dimensions are 5.6x17.5x21.5 inches and it weighs 11.12 pounds. Some of the small downsides of the device are the limited paper capacity of only 80 sheets and the lack of a wired ethernet port. The device also lacks a PictBridge USB port on the front, but memory card slots are included.
When it comes to printer ink, the prices for Photosmart 5520 ink cartridges are fairly economical for an inkjet. It uses separate HP 5520 ink cartridges for the three colors and black, reducing wasted ink, as each color of Photosmart 5520 ink only needs replacing when it is completely empty.
With the addition of duplexing, the 5520 may be a better buy than its predecessors, but for buyers who don't care about this feature, the higher price may be unjustified. Still, its low price and inexpensive HP 5520 ink make it an excellent value.
