This inkjet printer has the ability to send and receive faxes, scan documents to file and email, make multiple copies from an original and print efficiently with professional quality.

When scanning, the interpolated resolution is 19200x19200 dpi, which means the scan is true to the original. In turn, duplicates can be produced with a maximum resolution of 600x1200 dpi for black-and-white projects and 1200x1200 dpi when using the color HP 5500 ink. The scanner is a flatbed surface allowing users to duplicate pages from a textbook or magazine. Up to 99 copies can be made from one scan and resizing options range from 50-400% of the original size. The fax machine offers 80 speed dial options, a 55-page memory and a 3 second transmission time.

Only two HP 5500 ink cartridges are used to hold the cyan, yellow, magenta and black printer ink. The black HP 5500 ink stands alone, generating up to 520 prints before needing to be replaced. The tricolor OfficeJet 5500 ink cartridge can last up to 400 pages and replacements for both can be found online. If the budget is tight, compatible OfficeJet 5500 ink is available from third party vendors, which will perform the same but cost less.

Up to 15 black-and-white documents can be printed per minute while only 7 pages per minute can be printed in color. The standard print resolution created by the printer ink is 1200x1200 dpi, though that can be increased to 4800x1200 dpi when printing on specialty photo paper that can be found online or in local office supplies stores.
