HP 4710 Printer Review

The HP Color LaserJet 4710 is a color laser printer designed for the high-volume office environment. Its price and size are prohibitive for smaller offices, but its speed and print quality are top of the line, clearly an upgrade from the popular HP 2550 toner printer. You won't find a better solution for a large office than the 4710.

A small or medium office has quite a plethora of choices for a printer. There are now laser printers to meet every price range and need. For a large, high-volume office, however, budget laser printers won't do, as a large office needs the capacity and speed to keep up with its many users. The HP LaserJet 4710 is designed for the high-volume office, and it can handle everything an office can throw at it.

With a machine that so much is expected of, the HP LaserJet 4710 toner cartridges will not disappoint. Each color HP 4710 toner has a capacity of 10,000 pages, and the black HP 4710 toner has a page yield of 11,000 pages, which is more than most of the competition including Dell 3115cn toner. Even in a high-volume office environment, the HP LaserJet 4710 toner cartridges will not have to be replaced to often.

The design of the HP LaserJet 4710 is quite large, to make room for its high-speed single-pass printing engine and its multiple paper trays. The printer measures 24.7 inches by 20.5 inches by 23.5 inches (HWD) and weighs a hefty 107 pounds. The unit does come with casters for moving it around the office and it can be anchored by extendable legs once it is in place. This is a nice feature, and keeps the printer from rolling around unintentionally. The 4710 supports all modern versions of Windows and Mac OS X, and even Linux, though Linux users will have to download drivers from the internet.

With such a large machine, power consumption can be a concern. The printer does consume around 560 watts when active, but it's PowerSave and standby modes reduce power consumption to 17 watts and 55 watts, respectively, which is about the power usage of a light bulb. Print speed is extremely fast, as the 4710 uses a single-pass printing engine. Both color and monochrome print at a speed of 30 pages per minute. Print quality is second to none, in both color and monochrome, as this is one of HP's top of the line printers. It even ranks above the Xerox Phaser 6300 toner printer.

Overall, the HP Color LaserJet 4710 is a great choice for the high-volume office environment, where speed and capacity are paramount. Its bulky size and expensive price tag will be hard to justify for smaller offices.
