HP 4259 Printer Review

The HP OfficeJet 4259 all-in-one inkjet machine gives a little more priority to faxing than its printing, copying, and scanning features, but all four are very well-rounded. It can print and copy at up to 17 pages per minute in monochrome and 12 pages per minute in color, but watch out for high prices on HP 4259 printer ink.

From a design standpoint, it is easy to see that faxing is highlighted. A telephone handset is included, and the full keypad dominates much of the control panel. Since the input scanning tray is vertical and sheet-fed, users can scan, copy, or fax up to 20 sheets at a time, but they lose the ability to scan large or irregular items as they could with a flatbed scanner.

The input paper tray is a bit limited as well, at only 100 sheets, and the 20-sheet output tray could be a bit of a problem if users receive a high volume of faxes. The machine can store up to 100 sheets in memory, however, to help alleviate this kind of situation. The inkjet device supports a pretty good variety of media types that includes photo paper, labels, transparencies and more.

Multiple capacities of HP 4259 ink cartridges are available, and the unit uses not only a tricolor and black supply, but also a photo color OfficeJet 4259 ink cartridge to improve photo quality with 6-color printing. The combined cost of all of these can really add up, however, even when using the high-capacity OfficeJet printer ink supplies.

The 4259 makes a good solution for the user who wants mainly a fax machine, but also a capable scanner, copier, and printer. Its speeds are solid and output quality is average for its class, but the HP 4259 ink costs are too high for heavy use.
