Not only does the HP OfficeJet 4115 all-in-one inkjet printer have the ability to print, scan, copy, and fax, but it is only a little larger than the average single-function model. Some of its functions are limited by the lack of a flatbed scanner, but it can reach print speeds of up to 12 pages per minute, and high-capacity HP 4115 printer ink is available to keep operating costs low.

The unit is compatible with both Windows and Mac platforms, and connects to a single computer via USB, though no cable is included in the box. It is best suited to low-volume use, as its maximum monthly duty cycle is 1,000 pages per month, though this is more than the average for an inkjet model.

The design of the 4115 is like a blend of a traditional HP printer and a dedicated fax machine. The top tray opens up to reveal the control panel and document feeder, and folding it back down makes the unit very compact for when it is not in use. The document feeder can hold up to 20 pages, but the fact that is lacks a flatbed scanning platen means only loose pages can be scanned. Still, faxing is fast, and scanning supports an optical resolution of up to 600 dpi, which is adequate for standard office scanning needs.

Users have a choice between the standard OfficeJet 4115 ink cartridges or high-capacity versions with more than double the capacity. The high-capacity HP 4115 ink cartridges will have a higher purchase price, but a low cost per page. Some third-party vendors offer remanufactured OfficeJet 4115 printer ink for an even lower cost per page.

Budget-conscious buyers can get a lot of bang for their buck with the 4115. Its three functions are all well-designed, as long as users don't miss having a flatbed scanner, and having the choice of multiple capacities of HP 4115 ink is a nice bonus.
