It combines fast print speeds of up to 18 pages per minute using black Deskjet 3845 ink and up to 14 pages per minute using tricolor. This is efficient enough for many low volume jobs. The low upfront cost usually comes in under $200 and can be found for less with a little digging. This series has two models—the HP 3845 designed for worldwide use (voltage adapters) and the HP 3845xi, exclusive to North America.

A desktop model, the HP 3845 inkjet printer is built with space saving in mind. At 18.89x5.85x18.89 inches and weighing 5.02 pounds, it is able to fit in small areas. Letter stock, transparencies, envelopes, cards and address labels are all covered by this machine. Excellent photo capabilities are also built-in features. Hookup is a simple USB interface, and it works with Windows 98 and newer operating systems. Mac users will also have no problem with compatibility. Simple controls make operation a snap.

Page yields are respectable with the black HP 3845 ink cartridge producing up to 280 pages. The tricolor printer ink at 15% coverage will put out up to 240 pages. That's unusual for color prints. Using a photo Deskjet 3845 ink cartridge a great resolution of as much as 4800x1200 dpi can be created, producing sharp, quality photos. Laser quality text is possible using only the standard printer ink for this unit.
