The HP Deskjet 3820 ink printer uses thermal inkjet printing technology. It measures 20.9 x 14.8 x 7.6 in and it weighs 11.7 lbs. The device prints black and white text with a maximum resolution of 600 dpi x 600 dpi, maximum resolution for color is 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi. The 3820 can be connected to a PC via a USB port and a parallel port. The maximum media size supported on this machine is 8.5 in x 14 in. You can print on cards, labels, banners, envelopes, photo paper, plain paper, transparencies, and iron-on transfers. The machine is compatible with both Mac and Windows operating systems.

The HP 3820 ink cartridge printing machine uses a two-cartridge system with one black and one tri-color cartridge. The cost of ink is a consideration because you are forced to purchase the entire tri-color ink cartridge even if one ink in the cartridge gets over. This simple fact could make the HP 3280 inkjet cartridge printer a white elephant for you. The 14 ml HP 15 black ink cartridge has a page yield of 500 pages; the 19 ml HP 78 tricolor inkjet cartridge offers 560 pages.

Given that the Deskjet 3820 is an inexpensive one, it is understandable that the software loaded is purely of the functional type. There are no image editing programs bundled with the Deskjet 3820. The 3820 promises print speeds of up to 12 ppm for monochrome and 10 ppm for color prints. It delivers a reasonable performance on the speed parameters.

The HP Deskjet 3820 inkjet printer is one of the cheapest printing devices out there – it costs around $100 and gives surprisingly good quality photo prints. However, if crisp text prints are your requirement then you are better off considering similarly priced models from other vendors. The machine can, by no means, be called sturdy and the company could have done better than to offer a mere 3-month warranty. With a monthly duty cycle of one thousand pages, it is best suited for home use as a personal printer.
