The HP Deskjet 3747 is a small portable printer with many capabilities of a larger-sized unit. Perfect for basic printing needs and compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems, this inkjet unit could be a valid addition to any home office. With a weight of only 4.4 pounds, this mobile printer makes storage and placement easy with its dimensions of only 16.6x7.2x4.6 inches. Though the HP 3747 is no longer sold in stores or by the manufacturer, if one is thinking about purchasing a used machine, it may be a good idea to do so—it may be a petite, outdated unit, but it still could be a good product for home buyers with simple printing needs.

Printing on most standard media types—such as cards, transparencies, plain paper, labels and iron on transfers—the maximum media type for this unit is 8.5x14 inch paper. The total media capacity is 80 sheets and it can run with a monthly duty cycle of 500 pages.

Two Deskjet 3747 ink cartridges are used in this small machine. One tricolor HP 3747 ink cartridge and one black printer ink tank are included in the box upon purchase of this product. The tricolor Deskjet 3747 ink has a page yield of 190, while the black has a yield of 220. The HP 3747 ink is a little expensive for its page yield, but printer ink is still relatively easy to find even though the unit itself has been discontinued. However, remanufactured tanks of HP 3747 ink can be purchased, which are usually sold for a fraction of the price. The HP 3747 ink has resolutions of 1200x1200 dpi and 4800x1200 dpi for black and white and color photos, respectively.

User reviews of the HP 3747 inkjet printer are somewhat critical. One user complained that the 3747 had horrible photo quality and that it was a piece of junk. Another user commented that though the quality of printed objects was good, the functions of the machine itself were not up to par—printing labels seemed to be impossible with this Deskjet.
