The HP LaserJet 3330 is a multifunction monochrome laser printer designed for the small office environment. It has decent print speeds and good print quality, but its scanning quality falters a bit.
The office landscape has changed considerably over the last few years. Large offices that used to purchase multiple machines for copying, printing, and faxing are now switching to cheaper multifunction devices. Smaller offices, previously unable to afford all of these features, now have a wide variety of choices in quality multifunction devices.
The LaserJet 3330 features the ability to print, copy, scan, and fax, and can accomplish all of these tasks quickly and simply. Both the software interface and the unit's control panel are clearly laid out and make using each function easy for users. While it does not include an ethernet port out of the box, it can be shared across a network of users through a host computer or a print server.
Printing is the HP 3330's strong point. Print quality is quite good for a multifunction unit, though slightly below the quality of a dedicated laser printer. Print speed is decent, around 12 pages per minute, but it won't win awards for speed.
The HP LaserJet 3330 toner cartridge has a rather small page yield. Its capacity of 3,500 pages will work just fine for a small office environment. To save on cost per page, the user could buy a more economical option of the HP LaserJet 3330 toner cartridge from a third-party dealer. Installing the HP 3330 toner cartridge is easy since the HP LaserJet toner cartridge slides right into the printer.
Scanning can be done at up to 600 dpi and a color depth of 24-bit, but the unit's scanning quality is a little subpar. However, it is certainly good enough for day-to-day scanning needs for an office environment and converting documents to text with its included OCR software. Users who need higher quality scanning will probably need a dedicated scanner anyway. The flatbed scanning surface and 50-page automatic document feeder provide multiple options for getting scans into the unit.
Overall, the HP LaserJet 3330 is a very capable multifunction device that is very easy to use, and provides a lot of bang for the buck for a small office. Mediocre scanning quality is disappointing, but probably not an issue for most office users.
