HP 2511 Printer Review

The HP Deskjet 2511 all-in-one inkjet has solid scanning and copying functions in addition to great photo printing, and its ISO speeds of 7.5 pages per minute for black and 4.5 page per minute are pretty good for the price. Although HP 2511 printer ink is affordable, its lack of connection options and extras like memory card slots will limit its appeal.

With so many users looking to share their inkjet device among the entire household, the fact that the 2511 only offers a single USB port is quite a limitation. Users with simple needs may not mind so much, however, especially with its excellent scanning and copying functions.

It lacks an automatic document feeder, but its 8.5x11.7-inch flatbed scanner is easy to use, and optical character recognition software can help turn scanned documents into digital files with editable text. Copy speed is a bit slow, at 5 copies per minute for black and 3 for color, but users can make copies in standalone mode, without a computer connection.

In a somewhat surprising turn from the typical front-loading design of most of HP's all-in-one machines, the 2511 has a top-loading input paper tray for a straight paper path. This makes for less bending of media, and should cut down on paper jams. With the tray folded retracted, the unit measures 6.22x17x11.9 inches. It weighs only 8.59 pounds before the Deskjet 2511 ink is installed, so it is easy to unpack and set up.

Printer ink prices aren't the most affordable in its class, but HP 2511 ink cartridges come in standard and high-capacity versions. The high-capacity "XL" Deskjet 2511 ink cartridges can provide up to 330 pages for the tricolor supply and 480 for the black supply. This gives HP 2511 ink a fairly low cost per page, especially if buyers use remanufactured versions for a lower upfront price.

Buyers who need sharing options or memory cards slots will need to look elsewhere, but those with basic needs should find the cost-effective operation of the HP 2511 appealing. Its low price and solid speeds should meet the needs of low-volume home users adequately.
