As a workgroup laser printer, the HP Mopier 240 can create impressive monochrome documents, thanks to its 1200 dpi resolution. Its 24 pages per minute speeds are not bad for the price, and its paper capacity can be expanded quite a bit. Two capacities of Mopier 240 toner supplies give users a little more control of operating costs as well.

The 240 has a somewhat bulky design, measuring 42.5x40.2x22.2 inches, and it weighs around 185 pounds, so it will require a fair amount of space. It incorporates a modular design that can accept a number of upgrades, such as a scan and copy unit, finishing options, and more.

The paper capacity, which starts out at 700 sheets, can be expanded to a maximum of 3,500 sheets with upgrades. A maximum paper size of 11.7x17 inches gives users a great amount of flexibility for output, and automatic duplexing can help save paper, while Toner Save mode can reduce the amount of HP 240 toner applied to each page, with only a slight reduction in output quality. The parallel port of the 240 isn't likely to get much use with modern computers, but an ethernet port provides fast transfers and the ability to share the device among the entire office.

Toners are quick and easy to replace, and standard HP 240 toner cartridges provide a yield of up to 15,000 pages for high-volume use. High-capacity Mopier 240 toner cartridges offer a little more, at 17,500 pages, but only a slightly higher price, for a better cost per page. Compatible HP 240 toner is available from some third-party vendors for even lower prices.

Buyers looking for an affordable solution for a medium-sized workgroup might like the price point and low operating costs of the 240. Its connection options are limited, however, and its speeds are only adequate, especially for such a bulky device.
