HP 2300 Printer Review

The HP Businessjet 2300 ink printer costs around $500 and is meant for office workgroups. A model variant, the 2300n, offers networking and the 2300dtn provides duplexing as well. Both models offer useful additional workgroup functionalities but they cost almost as much as an economically priced laser printer. The machine offers an impressive duty cycle of 10,000 pages a month.

The HP 2300 ink cartridge printer has an input tray with a capacity for 400 sheets shared between two trays - one tray holds 150 sheets and the other 250 sheets. The machine dimensions are 21.8 x 16.3 x 11.4 in and it weighs 24.3 lbs. It offers print speeds of up to 26 ppm for black and 22 ppm for color printouts. Maximum output resolution for black and white prints is 1200 dpi x 1200 dpi and is 4800 dpi x 1200 dpi for color prints. The HP 2300 inkjet cartridge printer uses the CMYK color scheme. The three color ink cartridges, namely cyan, magenta, and yellow, have a capacity of 28 ml. The black ink cartridge is of 68 ml. The color printheads can support up to 24,000 pages and the monochrome printhead will print up to 16,000 pages. Unfortunately, this unit produces a lot of waste. For environmentally aware consumers, the Phaser 8550 ink printer is the most 'green' option available.

Machine connectivity is via two USB ports and one parallel port. As mentioned above, you can avail network connectivity as well by purchasing the relevant model variant. The HP 2300 is compatible with the following media - cards, labels, envelopes, index cards, photo paper, plain paper, coated paper, greeting cards, and transparencies. Print operations have to be routed through a PC as this machine does not come with memory card slots. The device is compatible with both PC and Mac.

This device is a good buy for workgroups with reasonably heavy print loads, the print quality is good and speeds are better than other office-oriented inkjets in its price range. However, the ink cartridges come with an expiry date and the machine will not print even if the ink in a single cartridge expires. Consider the HP Businessjet 2300 only if you have enough regular work for it otherwise you could end up facing frequent and costly ink changes.
