HP 2200 Printer Review
The HP LaserJet 2200 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the home or small office user. It has fast speeds, great print quality, and good paper capacity, but low memory and an unimpressive control panel are downsides.
Many small office printers make the mistake of including too little paper capacity, requiring users to either put up with constantly refilling paper or by a paper capacity upgrade. The HP 2200 includes a 250 sheet standard paper tray as well as a 100 sheet multipurpose tray, for a total of 350 sheets, which should be enough to support a small office nicely. An optional 250 sheet tray can be added as an upgrade, however, if that is still not enough.
HP LaserJet 2200 toner cartridge have a 5,000 page yield per HP 2200 toner cartridge. This is just the right amount of HP 2200 toner for a home or small office environment. HP toner cartridges are economically priced and have a reasonable capacity, the HP LaserJet 2200 toner cartridges are perfect for the printer it was designed for.
There are a few disappointing aspects about the HP 2200. First, it comes with only 8MB of installed memory. While this will certainly be enough for a home user, or a very small office, too many users sharing the printer in a networked environment will likely flood the memory, causing slowdowns and an increased reliance on spooling. The memory can be upgraded to a maximum of 72MB, and should be a fairly inexpensive upgrade, so multi-user environments may want to install the extra memory.
The printer's control panel is a bit difficult to decipher. It has no LCD screen, but instead utilizes a series of lights for displaying information. Many times this will require the manual to decipher what the printer is displaying, but unfortunately, HP does not include a paper manual with the printer, only on the disc. This makes the process much more complicated than it should be. Print speed is good, at 19 pages per minute, and should keep up well with a small office. Print quality is excellent, with detailed and sharp text, although text tends to be a little lighter than some laser printers.
Overall, the HP LaserJet 2200 is a good choice for the home or small office user. If you can put up with its sparse control panel and low memory, you will enjoy fast speeds and excellent print quality.
