HP 1512 Printer Review

The HP Deskjet 1512 is a basic and affordable all-in-one inkjet printer, but it still offers adequate ISO-rated speeds of up to 7 pages per minute for black and 4 pages per minute in color. Connection options are limited, with no sharing capabilities, however, and Deskjet 1512 printer ink can be expensive if buyers don't seek third-party alternatives.

The 1512 can print, scan, and copy. It can print at a maximum of 1200 dpi, but copies are limited to 600 dpi. The optical scanning resolution can go up to 1200 dpi as well, with 24-bit color depth. The scanning platen can accommodate media up to 8.5x11 inches in size, but the unit lacks an automatic document feeder.

Users shouldn't find it difficult to make room for the 1512, as it measures just 7.6x13.9x18.2 inches, though this is only when folded up for storage. Its weight of just 11.5 pounds (including the HP 1512 printer ink cartridges) ensures easy unpacking and setup. The small paper tray holds only 50 sheets at a time, so buyers shouldn't expect to do heavy volumes of printing or copying, though multiple media types like envelopes and labels are supported.

When users go to replace the Deskjet 1512 ink cartridges, they may be in for a surprise. The HP 1512 ink supplies are a bit pricey, especially for their small capacities. High-capacity HP 1512 ink is available, however, and remanufactured supplies are often around half the cost of OEM versions.

The Deskjet 1512 isn't overly fast, and its output quality won't match that of more expensive devices. For a very low-cost all-in-one inkjet printer, though, it offers a decent set of features and will cover the basics for users who only need to do simple printing, copying, and scanning tasks.
