The HP 1230 Fax machine is an inkjet unit used for high speed faxing. It is clearly marketed towards businesses but would also be good for home office use. It can transmit up to 12 copies per minute using black HP 1230 ink and up to 8 copies per minute in color printer ink. There is a 150 sheet input capacity and a 20 page automatic document feeder, which makes it great for businesses because nobody has to monitor each transmission. The 1230xi is also available.

Upon purchase, the box comes supplied with the device, output tray and tray guide, phone cord, power cord, setup poster, user guide and 2 HP 1230 ink cartridges. Inside the fax machine there is a 33.6 kbps modem and an 8 MB RAM. These features not only speed up the process of transmission to 3 seconds per page but can also hold 70 pages of memory.

There is a black Color Fax 1230 ink cartridge and a tri-color one. The tri-color tank consists of cyan, magenta and yellow printer ink. Each of these cartridges of HP1230 ink has about a 500 page yield, which is pretty standard. Replacements are available from the manufacturer and from third party vendors.

The HP Color Fax 1230 can make up to 99 copies from the original, and features the Super G3 speed. It also offers 100 speed dial numbers and a control panel with 10 touch keys, simplifying navigation. The high capacity and low cost of Color Fax 1230 ink helps consumers maintain their inkjet unit for an affordable price. The HP 1230 is a great single purpose addition to any small business or home.
