The LaserJet 1220 includes Readiris Pro software for OCR (optical character recognition) which can convert scanned documents into editable, searchable text. This is ideal for archiving paper documents into digital format. Copying features reduction and enlargement from 25-200%, and up to 99 copies can be made at once. The unit includes an automatic document feeder with a capacity of 30 sheets, allowing scanning and copying of up to 30 sheets automatically.

The printer supports both Windows and Mac computers, and both operating systems include drivers for the printer automatically for easy setup. Readiris Pro, the included OCR software, is compatible with both platforms as well.

HP LaserJet 1220 toner cartridges have a rather small page yield. For a personal or small office user, the 3,500 page yield of the HP toner cartridges will meet your requirements, but many large printing jobs may have the user replacing the HP 1220 toner cartridge more often than they would like. Thankfully, installing the HP 1220 toner cartridge is very simple.

Print speed is a bit on the slow side at 14 pages per minute, but print quality is excellent. Text is sharp and defined, and graphics quality is average. The LaserJet 1220's print quality may be enough to make up for its slow speeds for users who value quality.

Overall, the LaserJet 1220 is a well-designed multifunction printer with the features to fit the needs of a busy personal user. Lack of faxing capabilities and slower speeds might deter some buyers.
