But one of the more reliable and popular choices is the HP Deskjet 1100. Designed mainly for personal use, this unit is a rock solid addition to any home office. Even if the main need is for school book reports or printing out directions, the 1100 will complete the task with precision, just maybe lacking efficiency.

Consisting of two HP 1100 ink cartridges, one black and one tricolor, this printer will not require too much maintenance. Occasional printer ink replacements will be necessary. The black Deskjet 1100 ink cartridge can produce up to 830 pages, and the color tank can yield 620 pages. The unit itself has a monthly duty cycle of 3,000 pages, meaning if consumers use the 1100 to maximum capacity, replacement tanks of HP 1100 ink will have to be purchased almost weekly.

Using drop-on-demand technology, a maximum resolution of 600x600 dpi can be reached. This system uses hundreds of nozzles to eject small dots of Deskjet 1100 ink onto the page. The automatic enhancement feature, known as REt, layers these dots as to thicken and clarify the colors. This software is what provides the above average resolution.

Using only black HP 1100 ink, only 7 pages per minute can be printed, while 6 pages per minute can be produced when using the color printer ink. For a low-budget inkjet device, these speeds are reasonable. There is a built-in memory of 2 MB and 2 MB of ROM. The target audience of the Deskjet 1100 is small families with lower budgets that simply need a printer that will provide decent black-and-white documents and occasionally a color print.
