The HP LaserJet 1022 is a monochrome laser printer designed for the personal or small office user. Its light weight and compact size make it a great choice for students and home offices, and it has good print quality and speeds. It is very similar to the LaserJet P2035 toner printer. Noisy operation and limited memory might be downsides for some buyers.
The HP 1022 offers an affordable and compact solution for home users, college students, or anyone else who needs good laser quality in a small, affordable package. The unit measures only 9.5 inches by 14.6 inches by 14.3 inches (HWD) and weighing only 12 pounds, it is one of the most compact laser printers on the market. It is ideal for the college student, or someone who needs the ability to move the printer from place to place periodically. Its front tray folds up, almost as if it is designed to be transported.
HP LaserJet 1022 toner cartridges are perfect for this printer. HP LaserJet 1022 toner cartridges are available with either a high and standard page yield. The high capacity HP 1022 toner has a page yield of 3,000 pages, while the standard HP 1022 toner only contains 2,000 pages. Either way, this is a good amount for a small needs user. For a similar capacity in color, look towards the HP 2500 toner printer.
One of the main drawbacks of the LaserJet 1022 is a lack of memory. With only 8 MB of memory, the printer seems a bit underpowered, and has to rely on the host computer to do some of the processing for print jobs, resulting in possible slowdowns or problems when printing graphics-heavy documents or those with many pages. This is probably enough for most casual users, but the LaserJet 1022 certainly won't be able to handle higher volumes of printing or a network of users. Network-capable versions of the printer are available, but buyers looking for a network printer may want to spend a little more for a printer capable of supporting more users. The other main drawback is that the printer tends to be fairly loud when printing, which is less than ideal for a personal printer, as they tend to be placed close to the user. It is held in higher regard than the Brother MFC-7440 toner printer.
Overall, the HP LaserJet 1022 offers solid speed and print quality for an affordable price, but a few drawbacks may prompt some buyers to spend a little extra for a more capable printer. Users looking for a very compact, relatively portable laser printer may see still see its appeal.
