The HP LaserJet 1012 laser printer is designed for the personal user, like the HP P1005 toner printer. It manages to fit a lot of functionality into an affordable and compact printer. Small paper capacity may be an issue for some buyers.
Small toner capacity may be an issue as well. There are two options a user can choose from for their HP LaserJet 1012 toner cartridges. There is a standard capacity HP 1012 toner cartridge which contains 2,000 pages and a high capacity laser toner cartridge which has 3,000 pages. It would be a good decision to go with the high capacity printer toner cartridge, as it's the cheaper option and would lower the cost per page.
The design of the HP 1012 laser printer puts it at the size and weight around that of a large inkjet model. The unit measures 8.2 inches by 14.6 inches by 9.1 inches (HWD) and weighs only 13 pounds. Its depth of only 9.1 inches is particularly impressive and allows the unit to be placed on a narrow shelf if desired, though its power button is located on the back. It is the perfect size for a home office or dorm room with limited space, and its relatively light weight makes it a good choice for buyers who may need to move it around from time to time, such as a college student.
The machine has some nice bonus features one might not expect at its price. It can do N-up printing, which prints smaller versions of multiple pages on a single page. It can also print custom watermarks on pages. Though the unit doesn't include an automatic duplexer, manual duplexing is supported, guiding you through the process of feeding the paper back through the machine via an onscreen guide.
Print quality is good for both text and graphics. While the machine's print quality is not as impressive as more expensive models, it is certainly a big step up from the inkjet models it is likely replacing, especially when it comes to text. Print speed is average, at around 12 pages per minute, but good considering the price.
Overall, the HP LaserJet 1012 is a very affordable and compact personal printer that has all the necessary features, and even a few extra ones. It is ideal for a home office user or college student short on space.

This video will show you how to replace the toner cartridge in your HP LaserJet 1012 printer.
The HP LaserJet 1012 can provide a home or small office user with laser-quality prints at a very low price. It is rated at a speed of up to 12 pages per minute, and its paper tray holds up to 150 sheets. The printer connects via USB port, but does not include network support.
Start by removing the empty LaserJet 1012 toner cartridge. Open the output paper tray if needed. Then use the small handle to lift up the access panel at the top of the device.
Grab the handle of the toner cartridge, rotate it upward, and pull it straight out.
Open the box for your new HP 1012 cartridge and remove the packaging. The green strip is very sensitive, so avoid touching it.
You should rock the LaserJet 1012 cartridge forward and backward to help distribute the toner more evenly. Then you can place your finger inside the loop to pull the packing strip out.
With the access panel still open, place the new HP 1012 cartridge into the machine, and it should firmly lock into place. You can then close the access panel.
You are now ready to resume printing with your HP LaserJet 1012 laser printer.
