The HP LaserJet 1010 laser printer is designed for the personal or small business user. Its compact size and excellent print quality make it a great choice when space is tight and quality is important. If you need a color printer, evaluate the HP 2550 toner printer.

The HP 1010 laser printer is a very compact machine, especially for a laser. In the marketing material, the manufacturer mentions that it could fit into any workspace, even on a bookshelf. While this is technically true, the printer's front paper tray would stick out quite a bit from the shelf. All joking aside, the unit is very compact, and will be an especially appealing choice for the home user who may be replacing an inkjet, as it is relatively the same size as a large inkjet. The unit also uses laser printer toner that does not evaporate like inkjet printer ink.

To achieve its compact size, one might be tempted to think it skimps on quality or speed, neither is the case. Print quality is quite impressive, with an optical resolution of 600 dpi. ImageREt technology is integrated into the machine, allowing it to simulate a resolution of 1200 dpi for sharper prints. Speed is not sacrificed either, as it can churn out prints at 15 pages per minute, quite good for a personal laser at this price.

Connection options are limited to USB and parallel ports, so it is not directly networkable. Small offices can easily share the machine with the use of a print server or a shared host computer. The unit is able to handle a small number of users quite well, but its monthly duty cycle is only 7,000 pages, and its paper and toner capacities will not support a large number of users. In other words, it should not be considered by larger offices, but it makes an excellent personal or small office machine.

HP LaserJet 1010 laser toner cartridges come in two different sizes. The standard capacity laser toner cartridge has a page yield of 2,000 pages and the high capacity printer toner cartridge has a page yield of 3,000 pages. Neither of these HP 1010 toner cartridges have a remarkable page yield, but they will be fine for the personal or small business user the machine was made for.

Overall the HP LaserJet 1010 provides great print quality and speed combine in a compact, affordable package that should fit the needs of any personal user or small office.
