Around the beginning of the new millennium, HP changed the way people print digital pictures. With the introduction of the HP Photosmart 100 inkjet photo printer, people now have the luxury of printing lab-quality photographs at home or on the move. Weighing less than 3 pounds and measuring 4.7x7.9x8.8 inches, this unit makes a wonderful travel companion.
This unit features a USB interface for connecting to a PC. It also has slots for memory cards and a port for direct connection to digital cameras. The HP 100 only works with Windows operating system, so is it limited as to what cameras can connect to it? No, it is conducive with every major brand, including but not exclusive to HP, Kodak, Canon, Epson, Nikon, Fuji, Olympus, Casio and Toshiba.
There is only one lonesome HP 100 ink cartridge, and it consists of yellow, magenta and cyan printer ink. This inkjet printer can reach a resolution of 2400x1200 dpi, which is impressive considering its small frame and single tank of HP 100 ink. For those who love printing pictures frequently, this device will eat up the printer ink. After all, the Photosmart 100 ink cartridge only yields 400 pages.
Unfortunately, speed is not one of the finer features of the 100. It can take as long as 3 minutes to print one picture. Quality takes time, and the HP 100 ink can make images that will last a lifetime, literally. There are four buttons and a small LCD on the top panel. The buttons, or LEDs, are to print, to activate memory card slots and to enhance backlighting and the spot-sensory assembly.
Replacement HP 100 ink is available from HP for a reasonable price, but there are third party vendors that sell compatible tanks for much less. At the end of the day, the HP Photosmart 100 is as unique and easy to use as it is adorable!
