Epson 1430 Printer Review

Inkjet printers generally fall into two camps: a professional or consumer model. The Epson Artisan 1430 is a bit of both. It includes professional features such as wide format support, but also has conveniences that will appeal to home and office users alike, such as wireless networking and optical disc printing. Print speeds are a bit slower, at 2.8 pages per minute in black and color, but the unique design of the 6-color printer ink system makes Epson 1430 ink very affordable.

Highlights of the 1430 include the previously-mentioned wireless support, which can connect to any 802.11n network or below for easy connectivity without wires. The unit can use media up to 13 inches in width, for a lot of flexibility. Inkjet printable CDs and DVDs can be produced quite easily in full color, eliminating the need for stick-on labels, and the included software provides templates for designing around standard disc sizes. The machine also includes a copy of Adobe Photoshop Elements for editing photos.

The 1430 has a printer ink system that comprises six Epson 1430 ink cartridges. This allows users to replace only the Artisan 1430 ink cartridges that are empty, and reduces waste. It also means better quality from Artisan 1430 ink, as it has a larger number of colors to work with for increased accuracy.

In their review of the Artisan 1430, Photography Blog gave it high ratings in all categories, with a particular emphasis on value for the money. They praised its inclusion of Wi-Fi, and its versatile borderless printing features. They felt its slower speeds and the small size of Epson 1430 ink could be limiting for high-volume users, however.

The Epson 1430 should appeal mainly to buyers who want to print on larger formats, but don't want the high prices associated with larger models. It is a solid entry-level machine for basic use.
