The Dell 2335dn is a multifunction monochrome laser printer designed for the small or medium office environment. It strikes a good balance of paper capacity, features, and printing speed, but it is a little expensive for its class. Other units may be a better value, like ones that feature Brother TN350 toner.
The Dell 2335dn has a sleek black design that catches the eye. Its design is also relatively compact for a multifunction unit, measuring 18.1 inches by 18.3 inches by 17.3 inches (HWD) and weighing 39 pounds. It won't share a desk, but its footprint is small enough to fit in a small office. It includes a four-line LCD display instead of the typical two-line, allowing it to display information a little more clearly. The unit comes with 128 MB of memory which can be upgraded to a maximum of 384 MB if desired. Its main paper tray can hold 250 sheets, while its multipurpose tray can hold 50 sheets. An optional 250 sheet additional tray can be added for more capacity.
The Dell 2335dn can print, scan, copy, and fax. Copying and faxing can be done standalone directly at the machine. The unit has both a flatbed scanning surface and a 50 sheet automatic document feeder, both of which can handle media at a maximum size of 8.5 x 14 inches. These containers of toner are smaller than other kinds, such as HP C7115X toner.
All of the Dell 2335dn's functions work very well, but getting to some of its functions is often unintuitive. Many functions which normally have a dedicated button are buried deep in menus, so that the extra screen display becomes more of a challenge than an advantage, as you must constantly use it for everyday functions.
Print speed is quite good, at around 30 pages per minute. Print quality is very good. Text quality is very sharp and dark. Graphics quality is average for a laser printer, with a few uneven gradients and small flaws cropping up occasionally. Dell 2335dn toner cartridges have a moderate capacity. At 6,000 pages per black cartridge, the Dell 2335dn toner cartridges will not have to be replaced to often in a small or medium office environment. These last longer than competing Canon C106 toner.
Overall, the Dell 2335dn is a good multifunction printer with some major design flaws. An unintuitive workflow and an expensive price tag bring down the value of an otherwise good printer.
