The Dell 2135cn is a multifunction color laser printer with print, copy, scan, and fax functions built in. The machine is capable of handling the tasks of multiple pieces of equipment, and therefore is a great choice for the small or medium office looking for the functionality they need in a more compact unit. If printing is the only function needed, the Dell 1110 toner printer should be considered.

This is not to say that the unit is compact, by any means. The Dell 2135cn is quite large, especially compared to a typical color laser printer. At 66 pounds and measuring 22.8 by 17.2 by 19.5 inches (HWD), it a bit of a behemoth and not something that can easily be kept on a desk. Although its black case design makes it look a little more modern than some units, its scanning bed and document feeder jut out from the rest of the unit in a way that gives it a very awkward appearance.

The printer supports network scanning, allowing users to scan a document from the machine directly to any PC connected to the network. Print speed is impressive for a multifunction machine. At 16 pages per minute monochrome and 12 pages per minute in color, it operates faster than many multifunction printers, which tend to lag behind dedicated laser speeds. Print quality is also impressive, with very sharp text and only very minor defects on extremely small font sizes.

Dell 2135cn toner cartridges have a capacity of 2,500 pages for both the black and colors. This is a good page yield for a small office; but in a medium, fast-paced office, the user could run into some issues with having to replace the toners. To cut down on costs per page, the user could buy compatible Dell 2135cn toner cartridges from a third party dealer.

Overall, the Dell 2135cn has a great balance of functionality, print quality, and print speed. If you can overcome a few setup hurdles, the Dell 2135cn will make a great fit in most small or medium office environments.
