The Dell 1250 is a color laser printer that will work in homes or small offices well. Though the 30,000 page per month duty cycle may make it seem like it was designed for offices, the slow speeds of only 12 pages per minute for black-and-white documents and 10 pages per minute for color documents make it more suitable for homes and small offices with low output rates.

For operation, four Dell 1250 toner cartridges are needed—cyan, magenta, yellow and black. The black will last 2,000 pages before expiring, while the colors will last 1,400 pages. Resolutions as high as 600x600 dpi are possible. This quality is not above average, but will leave documents looking professional and sharp.

As far as consumer and expert reviews go, there are both positives and negatives with the 1250. Everyone agrees that the affordable upfront price is great, as well as the fact that it is easy to setup and install. Quality of prints is excellent, according to reviews, and the colors produced are sharp and detailed. It doesn't have paper jams very often either, which is a good thing because those are a huge annoyance to most users. When it comes to complaints, though, there are a few. The first is that the lights on the machine are a little confusing, making it hard for users to understand problems their unit may be experiencing. Some believe the Dell 1250 toner is expensive while others complain that the printer toner doesn't hold out as long as promised.

To maintain this laser machine affordably, the best thing to do is to purchase remanufactured Dell 1250 toner cartridges from third party vendors rather than OEM printer toner. Not only do the remanufactured toners have the exact same page yield, but they produce the same high resolutions as the original.
