With the Canon PIXMA MX479, the company didn't stray far from their tried and true design themes, but they did update this all-in-one inkjet printer with excellent wireless support and mobile printing features. Its ESAT speeds of 9.7 images per minute in black and 5.5 images per minute in color are pretty solid, but Canon MX479 printer ink supplies can be pricey, likely leading buyers to third-party alternatives.

Even with its print, scan, copy, and fax features, the MX479 still has a focus on sharp print quality. It can reach a maximum resolution of 4800x1200 dpi when printing photos, and also handles text and graphics very well. The machine itself is a little on the large side, measuring 7.9x18.1x15.2 inches, and weighs 18.4 pounds including the PIXMA MX479 printer ink supplies.

The scanning features of the MX479 are quite impressive, with a flatbed scanning surface for irregular media and a 30-sheet automatic document feeder for quicker unattended scanning. At first glance, there aren't a lot of standout features to make the Canon MX479 more appealing than competing inkjet models. What it offers, however, is a lot of solid features and excellent print quality at a very low price, which is exactly what most buyers should be looking for.
