The Canon MX860 ink printer is an all-in-one system with the unique and easy function of two-sided copying and printing. Primarily for at-home or small business usage, the PIXMA MX860 inkjet has high functionality for those wanting to save on expenses because it has low ink consumption, which is more that can be said for the competing HP 93 ink. There are wireless capabilities, USB and Bluetooth ports. Several memory cards can also connect to the product.

This 26.4 pound Canon MX860 may seem bulky in comparison to other similar products, but the effortless setup outweighs this subtle con. The 19.4"x17.1"x8.9" dimensioned unit prints documents raging in sizes from 4"x6", 4"x8", 5"x7", 8"x10", letter, legal and US envelope. There are copier, scanner, fax machine and photo card attachment capabilities with this model. The PIXMA MX860 is also compatible with Mac and Windows operating systems.

Printing with a resolution in color of up to 9600x2400 dpi and black up to 600x600 dpi, the Canon MX860 ink cartridges create images with sharp colors and tones, which most consumer reviews show as a positive when buying this device. More impressive quality is possible elsewhere, like with Canon PGI-35 ink.

Opinions of the PIXMA MX860 ink printer are across the board. Many complain it is much too heavy and bulky for the simple tasks of printing in a home or small office, while others find that it is the perfect fit. The MX860 inkjet also has trouble connecting wirelessly, which many find frustrating due to the promises of simple connectivity and usage. However, others say connecting is easy if the consumer reads the manual.

The Canon PIXMA MX860 can handle a multitude of tasks from printing and copying to scanning and faxing. It includes an ethernet port and wireless networking support, as well as a standard USB port, a front-mounted USB port, and memory card slots. The unit can print up to 8.4 pages per minute in black and 5.6 pages per minute in color, and its 35-sheet automatic document feeder is great for fast scans and copies.

Make sure your printer is powered on, then start by opening the paper tray to access the top cover. Lift the entire top scanning unit from below the scanner lid, making sure that the support slides into place on the right side to keep the lid secure.

The Canon MX860 ink cartridge that is empty will be flashing rapidly. Pry the small lever on the front of the cartridge backward slightly to release it, then lift the cartridge up and out.

Open the box for the new MX860 ink cartridge and remove it, then remove it from the plastic bag as well.

Prepare the PIXMA MX860 cartridge by removing the tape strip at the top. Simply grasp and pull in the direction the arrows are pointing. Remove it from the orange plastic cover at the bottom by prying the small lever on the cartridge backward and releasing it.

Slide the new MX860 ink cartridge into the opening, then press downward to snap it into place. The light on the cartridge should remain solid.

Close the top scanning unit by lifting it up about an inch, then pressing on the support lever so that it folds inward. Slowly lower the scanning unit down into place.

You are now ready to resume printing with your Canon PIXMA MX860 printer.
