The Canon PIXMA MX712 paints a good picture of the evolution of the modern multifunction color inkjet printer. It includes wireless sharing and support for protocols like AirPrint, an impressive resolution of up to 9600 dpi for color prints, and fast speeds of up to 12.5 images per minute for black and 9.3 for color, based on ESAT standards. Canon MX712 printer ink is affordable as well, especially high-capacity versions.
The sheer number of features in the MX712 is almost overwhelming. It has a 35-sheet automatic document feeder for scanning multi-page documents, automatic duplex printing for easy two-sided prints, and a two-way feed path to avoid bending certain types of media.
There are also a number of ways to get images and documents into the machine. Both wired and wireless networking are included. A PictBridge USB port is located on the front of the device, as well as multiple memory card slots, providing two ways of getting images from a camera.
With support for Apple's AirPrint protocol, Apple devices such as the iPhone and iPad can easily and quickly send documents, photos, and more to the printer wirelessly. This eliminates much of the hassle involved in printing from mobile devices, though it is limited to Apple hardware only.
High-capacity versions of PIXMA MX712 ink cartridges are available, with yields of around 510 pages for each individual color. There are two black Canon MX712 ink cartridges, with yields of 450 and 340 pages each. Using compatible PIXMA MX712 printer ink is recommended, as it can reduce the running costs by about half.
There are so many great reasons to choose the MX712, from its solid wireless and mobile support to its extremely high printing resolution. Apple users will love the integration of AirPrint, though others might find its limitations frustrating. Low prices on Canon MX712 ink make it a very affordable inkjet.

Although the MX712 is a little bulky for a home printer, its multifunction features will be well worth it. It can print, scan, copy, and fax, and supports wireless protocols like AirPrint for easy printing from mobile devices.
Start with your printer turned on. With the paper tray open, raise up the top cover from inside the paper tray opening. The cover should stay open on its own. The carriage containing the cartridges will move to the center for easier access.
Empty Canon MX712 cartridges will flash to make them easier to locate. Press the front plastic lever away from you to release the cartridge. Then grab that cartridge and lift it out of the opening.
Carefully open the box and remove the PIXMA MX712 ink cartridge, then also remove the bag. Pull the tape strip at the top away from the cartridge, then also pry the small lever away from the orange handle to remove it before installation.
Insert the replacement MX712 cartridge into the machine at a slight downward angle, then press down from the top until it snaps into place. Lower the top cover slowly, and you are finished.
You are now ready to resume printing with your Canon PIXMA MX712 printer.
