Canon MX522 Printer Review

The Canon PIXMA MX522 is an improvement over previous all-in-one inkjet models in many different ways. It features fairly quick ESAT speeds of up to 9.7 images per minute, includes support for mobile printing, and has a new FastFront method for replacing Canon MX522 printer ink that is very convenient.

Buyers who need a wired ethernet port may have been disappointed in the lower models of this line, but the MX522 includes one, as well as automatic duplexing a color LCD on the front panel, more than justifying its higher price tag. It also functions quite well as a standalone copier and fax machine, and the larger display makes it a little easier to control.

The size and weight of the MX522 is fairly similar to other models in its line, however. It measures 7.9x18.1x15.2 inches, and it weighs only 19 pounds without the PIXMA MX522 ink installed. This makes it just compact enough to share a desk with, but some users might find it a little too bulky for this purpose.

Some of the modern extras include support for Apple's AirPrint protocol and Google Cloud Print for remote printing. There is also a Canon Easy-PhotoPrint app for the iPhone and Android devices that allow for even more functionality from a smartphone.

The process for replacing printer ink has been greatly improved from earlier models. The FastFront system allows users to open a front panel to replace Canon MX522 ink cartridges instead of the entire top of the machine. Prices for PIXMA MX522 ink cartridge replacements are also pretty affordable, which keeps the cost per page competitive.

While reviews mention that the MX522 inkjet printer can be a bit slow, it has so much to offer for an affordable price that most home users should be quite happy with it. Add up its mobile printing features, standalone copying and faxing, and affordable Canon MX522 ink and you have a lot of value for a great price.
