Even though its frame is a bit bulky, the Canon PIXMA MX459 all-in-one inkjet printer makes up for that with a great feature set and very low price. It can print at an ESAT-rated 9.7 images per minute in black and 5.5 images per minute in color, and multiple sizes of Canon MX459 printer ink supplies are great for controlling expenses. Its document feeder is also a nice touch, though the control panel is a bit limited.

As mentioned, the MX459 is rather large for a home all-in-one machine. It measures 7.9x18.1x15.2 inches, with a weight of 19 pounds. Its black design helps it to blend in with its surroundings, however, and it is still small enough for desktop use. A 30-sheet automatic document feeder eliminates the need for manual scanning, and the input paper capacity is roomy enough for the average home, at 100 sheets. Lacking a full-color screen, the basic control panel is one of the few obvious concessions to its low purchase price.

One of the features Canon likes to highlight is its My Image Garden software. Borrowing from programs like iPhoto, it does do a great job of helping users organize, edit, and print their photos in creative ways. Some users may already use a similar software package, however, and be reluctant to switch.

If the standard Canon MX459 ink cartridges are too small for users, they can opt for high-capacity versions. These "XL" PIXMA MX459 ink cartridges provide higher page yields for a lower cost per page. Unfortunately, the cost of PIXMA MX459 printer ink is generally high, and the lack of individual color supplies can lead to more waste.

For buyers on a budget, the MX459 inkjet printer is a solid choice. Though it lacks a few features like a color screen and individual color Canon MX459 ink supplies, its speed and high-quality output as well as its range of copy, scan, and fax features make it a good value for such an affordable cost.
