Canon MX310 Printer Review

The Canon MX310 is an inkjet color photo printer that also contains a scanner, copier and fax machine. This multi-purpose machine is good for small business use, but only in low volumes. It is virtually identical to the MX300, except for the addition of a 30 sheet automatic feeder which simplifies the processing of large documents. It can print and copy as fast as 2.7 seconds per page in black printer ink and up to 3.5 seconds per page in color.

The Canon Pixma MX310 inkjet unit is priced just under $200. It is compatible with Windows and Mac and features Quick Start which eliminates warm up time. It is a bigger than most, weighing nearly 20 pounds and measuring 18.4"x17.3"x9.1". Color 4"x6" photos print at a resolution of 4800x120dpi and only take about 45 seconds. Black and white photos and text are printed at 600x600dpi resolution.

Upon purchase, medium capacity black and color Canon MX310 ink cartridges are supplied. There are also low and high capacity Pixma MX310 ink cartridges available. Most Canon inkjet printers feature the nozzle print head technology known as FINE. This is a technique that dispenses hundreds of drops of the Canon MX300 ink per inch through the 1,472 nozzles. The droplets are either 2 or 5 picoliters and blend together to create crisp and realistic images.

For the price tag, the Canon MX310 inkjet printer exceeds most competitive units in terms of speed and quality. Small businesses will find the MX310 very useful and beneficial. However, there have been complaints that it burns through Canon MX300 ink too quickly. High capacity printer ink is available for heavy duty printing. Experts agree that this device is lacking is faxing capabilities and networking options. Still, the MX300 makes for a solid printer, scanner and copy machine.
