Canon MP780 Printer Review

Very much like the older MP750, the Canon Pixma MP780 inkjet is an update of a previous model. Print speeds remain at 25-ppm black and 17-ppm color. This unit simply adds a fax function and a 350-page memory for more efficient printing. It too is designed for home users and small businesses that need faster printing than base units provide. A 35-page feeder supplies the copier function. Pricewise, it is lower than many others are but it packs more features.

The same dimensions of 15.5" x 19.1" x12.0" and a weight of 30 pounds, this printer is a little bigger than most desk printers. The fax and scanner necessitate this. Resolution of up to 4800 x 1200 dpi is attained using Canon's 5-color cartridge system. The fax transmits at a fast 12 page per minute speed. Scanning is precise and detailed to give efficient data transfer. Ink usage is kept under control because of the five independent cartridges. Cartridges have yields of 480 for black and up to 280 pages color depending on the density of the print.

A USB interface links things up to Windows 98 and up and Mac 10.1 and up platform users. Canon's setup, driver and photo management disks help with getting started. The photo software leads to photo lab quality results.

After revies by CNET and PCMag.com, the general results were similar. Aside from a few picky comments about the fax, there were no significant complaints noted about this inkjet all-in-one. The ADF (auto document feeder) was a big hit. Like most Canon products, this unit is one to beat. Economical price, thoughtful features, and high quality set it apart.

Low upfront cost with high-end features makes this a great value for an increase in efficiency in the small office/home user area. High quality photo capability and groundbreaking extras set this all-in-one apart from the crowd.
