Weighing 12.1 pounds, the Canon Pixma MP495 is a lightweight all-in-one device perfect for at-home users. The color inkjet offers scanning, copying and printing; however, faxing capabilities are not offered. With a size of 17.8x13.2x6 inches, finding a spot for it will be a synch. Windows and Mac operating systems are both supported.

Inside of the machine, two Canon MP495 ink cartridges are needed. One is filled with black printer ink, while the other holds cyan, magenta and yellow. A standard capacity black Pixma MP495 ink cartridge holds 220 pages, while the color should last 244 pages. High capacity versions of the printer ink are available too which hold 349 pages and 401 pages for color and black ink, respectively.

When printing, the speeds are slow at 8.8 pages per minute for monochrome prints and 5 pages per minute in color. Canon MP495 ink can create resolutions as high as 4800x1200 dpi when printing, and up to 99 copies can be made per each original document when copying. Enlargements and reductions can be made from 25% to 400%. Envelopes, plain paper and photo paper are all supported by the machine, and the Pixma MP495 ink will produce high quality graphics each time.

When it comes to positive reviews, the MP495 has many. First, it has very quiet operation, which is a major plus for most using this in a home setting. Buyers also love how it has wireless printing options, as well as automatic features. The upfront price is low, according to consumers, and the installation and setup are simple. There are a few cons with this unit too, though. Most find that the quality produced isn't as high as promised using the Canon MP495 ink, while many complain that paper jams happen far too often. With the addition of wireless networking, the Canon PIXMA MP495 is a step up from other models in its line, and still offers sharp photo printing, scanning, and copying features. Its Auto Photo Fix feature is great for making quick, automatic adjustments to improve photo quality, and the Full HD Movie Print software works with compatible cameras to easily turn still movie frames into photos.

With the printer turned on, start by opening the paper tray, then lift the top section of the printer upward. A plastic prop lever slides forward to hold the top section in place.

The carriage containing the two MP495 ink cartridges will move into the center, and you will find the black cartridge marked B and the color cartridge marked C. Pinch the small handles and lift up on the the cartridge cover, then grab and remove the cartridge.

Get your new PIXMA MP495 ink cartridge ready by taking it out of the box, then removing and discarding the plastic bag. Remove the tape strip by pulling it away from the cartridge, or if the cartridge comes with a plastic protector, you will need to pinch the two handles to remove it.

Place the new Canon MP495 ink cartridge into the opening. Make sure it settles flat before you close and snap the cover into place.

The top section of the printer is closed by lifting it up a bit, then pressing on the lever to fold it in as the cover is slowly lowered down.
