Canon MP390 Printer Review
The Canon SmartBase MP390 is an all-in-one color inkjet that takes the great design and feature set of other models in its line and adds the ability to send and receive faxes for buyers who were missing this feature. It has the same fast speeds, at up to 12 pages per minute in color and 18 ppm in black, and the same printer ink system in the Canon MP390 ink that is very cost-effective.
Canon makes a big mention of the eye-catching design of the MP390, and it does have a very unique and sleek look, with a Z-shaped chassis that saves a bit of bulk. It also breaks free of the common boxy design of most of the inkjet competition. The added faxing feature is very fast, supporting Super G3 transmission speeds, with 16 MB of memory for storing incoming and outgoing documents. Photo quality is very impressive, and borderless printing is available in a number of sizes, including large A3 media.
Replacing printer ink is economical, and Canon MP390 ink cartridges utilize a MicroFine droplet system that improves output quality. SmartBase MP390 ink cartridges don't need replacing frequently, as they have fairly large page yields. Some sellers offer compatible SmartBase MP390 ink for lower prices.
PC Magazine made the MP390 an Editor's Choice, and rated it 3 out of 5, with very positive remarks. They liked its high-quality output and the ability to send and receive faxes from the host computer, as well as the ability to print from a memory card or camera. The disliked the smaller size of the starter Canon MP390 ink.
Overall, the MP390 works well as both an all-in-one and as a photo printer, and the combination of both makes it a convenient choice that is a great value for its low price.
