The Canon PIXMA MG8220 takes the typical multifunction inkjet printer concept and steps it up a notch with a higher print resolution and some advanced features that set it apart from the competition. Print speed is around 12 pages per minute for black and 9 pages per minute for color, and the extra resolution provides sharp image quality. Extra Canon MG8220 ink provides better color balance, but printer ink costs are still fairly low.
In addition to its excellent features, the MG8220 can also scan and copy. It has a flatbed scanning surface and can scan at a maximum optical resolution of 4800 dpi, with enhanced resolutions available as well. The front-mounted USB port and memory card slots are other ways to get documents and photos into the machine, and once they are loaded, the touchscreen LED panel helps users to make edits and control options quickly and easily. Automatic photo fixing options help to enhance and balance images, even for novices.
The unit incorporates a total of 6 Canon MG8220 ink cartridges to help create better images. In addition to the 5 dye-based PIXMA MG8220 ink cartridges, there is a dedicated gray cartridge that helps enhance black-and-white images. Despite the extra printer ink, it is still fairly economical for an inkjet model, and using compatible PIXMA MG8220 ink and enabling the toner save mode helps even more.
Compared to previous models such as the MG5320 and MG6220, the MG8220 includes some improvements that make it unique. The main difference is the use of 6 cartridges in the Canon MG8220 ink system and the enhancements to the image quality. The touchscreen interface and the ease-of-use is also improved, and the networking and wireless features are better implemented.
Overall, photographers and photo enthusiasts will find a lot to like about the Canon MG8220. It has superior photo print quality to most consumer models on the market but still manages to be very economical.
